Project Engineer

JTT Project Engineers – Build Stuff That Matters

Since 1906, J.T. Thorpe & Son (JTT) has built and maintained industrial plants (facilities) that fuel our nation with power, gas, steel, cement, biofuels and a wide variety of products critical to one’s day-to-day life. We strive to design and deliver the best and most reliable facilities in the world by creating the linings to withstand the products that flow through these facilities

At JTT, we put our customers first. Our project management team is the key to achieving success and the cornerstone of our reputation as the premier contractor in the industry. The project management team owns and leads the project each step of the way; guiding the project from concept, to construction, to customer hand-off. An excited and grateful customer for a project expertly delivered from beginning to end is a most satisfying undertaking.

As a member of the JTT project management team, you will meet your customer’s needs with a well planned and executed solution. With JTT, you will have access to the combined experience of almost 110 years in the business, cutting edge equipment, and an extensive manpower workforce. By leading your crew through safe production you WILL create a protective lining for your customer which will last for years.

As a JTT project engineer, you will not only be constructing world class facilities and lasting relationships with your customers, but also building great potential and experience for your own future. If climbing inside a refinery reactor, a hydrogen heater, or a reaction furnace, sounds like a good time, then JTT may be the right place for you! Successful project engineers have a bias for action, and an ability to break down complex problems into steps that drive results. They lead their team to execute projects flawlessly. As a project engineer, you can help lead JTT’s next major project.

  • Work diligently to become an expert in JTT’s mission and strategies, as well as industry standards, applications, materials and equipment.
  • Execute interesting industrial projects in your home region. In time you will have the opportunity to travel across the country and around the world helping industrial customers anywhere with your expertise.
  • You will lead continuous improvement sessions, and engage in professional development activities.
  • Set you and your team up for success by working with other JTT team members and the customer to create a detailed project plan.
  • Drive the execution of the project plan while balancing customer requirements and desires. This requires challenging all members of the construction team to identify issues, implement robust solutions, and achieve excellence.
  • Clearly communicate plans and results, as appropriate, to a spectrum of audiences; from various customer contacts to project management team members; to internal stakeholders.
  • Be involved in all aspects of the project from engineering and design, to estimating, execution and final closeout.
  • An engineering undergraduate degree, plus hands on management / project management experience.
  • A high bar across the board - from your own contributions, to the people you work with, to the projects on which you work.
  • A “driver” personality - biased toward action - continually pushing to be the best.
  • A drive to be independent and autonomous, taking responsibility and ownership for your job.
  • 2+ years’ experience delivering highly successful projects.
  • Grit and tenacity. You don’t hesitate to roll up your sleeves and tackle something hands-on; much like the linings we design and install - you persevere when others fall away.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit; knowing that you can influence the direction of our company through your own dreams and desires – and you will be rewarded for it. We are looking for the next generation of leaders to evolve and excel with the company.
  • A never-ending desire to grow and learn.
  • Vehicle with fuel credit card
  • IPhone, laptop, wireless card; additional electronics and resources as needed
  • Paid housing and expenses when traveling
  • An opportunity to be part of the team shaping the strategic vision of our company
  • Ability to control your project from start to finish with full visibility on all project aspects
  • Potential to bid, win, and negotiate projects
  • The reward of seeing how many infrastructure products are refined and made; including gasoline, power, copper, cement, steel, aluminum, ethylene, etc.
  • Profit sharing plan
  • Bonus opportunity eligibility
  • Full medical / dental / vision package to fit the needs of your family
  • 16 paid time off (PTO) days, plus compensatory time off after projects

We’re bringing JTT to major industrial projects across North America. We need your dedication and leadership to make it happen. Join us today.
